Water Service Line Inventory project
Recent changes to federal Safe Drinking Water regulations require public water systems to identify lead service lines and to develop a long-term plan for the replacement of those lines. One of the required elements of this new regulation is to develop a detailed inventory of water service line materials for submission to GA Environmental Protection Division. The City of Sandersville has contracted with ESG Engineering to prepare this Lead Service Line Inventory.
ESG has already been hard at work on Phase 1 of the project by reviewing all available data sources to identify as many lines as possible based on engineering drawings, tax assessor records, installation dates etc.
Phase 2 of the project, will include field investigation to collect data for the lines that have not yet been identified. This will be done primarily by a visual inspection that, unfortunately, may require some excavation of the area around the lines. You may see hydro excavation trucks, pot-holing or hand digging throughout the city, especially around meter boxes where both the city and the property owner’s lines can be observed. The crews will do their best to disturb as small an area as possible and to be considerate of property owners landscaping however, some digging simply cannot be avoided. This work will begin Monday Sept 16, 2024 and will take 2-4 weeks to complete. Please contact the City of Sandersville Water Department at the number below with any questions.
